But just how well does it live up to this assignment? That’s what I am here to find out, by putting it through a series of rigorous tests to find out its feel, how it sleeps and whether it could be the mattress of your dreams.
Continue reading below for my full review of the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress.
The Botanical Bliss is constructed with three 3″ layers of natural Dunlop Latex.
Unlike Talalay Latex, which frequently has a light and airy feel, Dunlop is dense and makes for a firmer structure.
Here, each of the three Dunlop sections is categorized as either Soft, Medium or Firm, and can be arranged in whatever order best suits the sleeper.
According to PlushBeds, there are a total of six distinct firmnesses for every mattress, with a split firmness option available for King and Cal King sizes.
Worried you won’t be able to figure out how to configure the layers to your liking? No sweat! The brand offers a set of graphics on its site detailing all of the various ways to orient the latex sections.
Plus, if you are still not satisfied with the feel, PlushBeds is pleased to throw in an extra Firm layer of latex for more support.
For the purpose of my review, I’ll be taking a look at the Botanical Bliss in the”Soft” orientation, which has the Soft layer on top, the Moderate layer in the middle and the Firm segment as the foundation .
But enough talk! Let’s dive into this plush latex mattress and see what’s going on inside.
Cover: Made with organic cotton and wool, the cover is soft and provides the sleeper with a few satisfying comfort.
Latex Layers: As I mentioned up top, the next three sections are comprised of 100% all-natural Dunlop Latex.
This substance is dense and has a quick response to stress , creating a bed that’s incredibly bouncy. In comparison to memory foam, latex doesn’t feature much if any contouring, so you are unlikely to feel stuck at the mattress.
One more thing you’re likely to notice with latex is that it sleeps cool, so could be an excellent option for those of you who are inclined to sleep hot during the night.
As far as the texture in this particular configuration is concerned, placing the Soft layer up top allows for some initial deep sinkage to the mattress, which is buffered slightly by the Moderate latex segment as the sleeper transitions into the Firm base below.
The Botanical Bliss‘ construction is also noteworthy because it’s a 100% certified organic mattress, which means all of its materials have been licensed by the International Organic Latex Standard and the Global Organic Textile Standard.
Plus, the bed can also be GREENGUARD Gold Certified, ensuring that the mattress has met some of the world’s most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds into indoor air. Plushbeds Shop
After taking a look at the construction of the Botanical Bliss, let us talk about the firmness and feel.
I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and discovered that I was immediately interacting with the soft wool cover.
Pressing in further, I struck the buoyant lift of the latex layers, which propelled me up and from the structure.
Since people of different sizes, weights and shapes are going to feel firmness differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to help me determine how firm the Botanical Bliss is.
We each took a turn lying about the plush organic mattress, gave it a personal firmness rating and then compiled them on the chart below.
While feel is always likely to be an individual thing, this will hopefully give you a good sense of the firmness range you can expect from this bed.
Aside from 1 outlier, we were largely in agreement about the firmness of the Botanical Bliss, landing an average rating of 5.4.
When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness, it appears like this bed is pretty soft.
I personally gave the mattress a 5. While the bounce of the latex is likely to keep you positioned on top of the bed, the material is surprisingly gentle, allowing for a few pretty deep sinkage throughout the mattress.
Keep in mind that we’re only looking at the bed in its”Medium” orientation and that changing around the layers could make it either firmer or softer.
To get more specific, the Botanical Bliss Moderate provides a firmness range from 5-7 using gentle, medium and firm layers of latex.
The Botanical Bliss Firm runs from 7-9 and only utilizes medium, firm and extra firm latex. These various sections can be moved around to create 6 unique configurations, representing a subtle gradient within the prescribed selection.
So if we swapped across the layers in our bed to have a firm coating up top, a moderate transition segment and a soft foundation, we’d end up with a bed which had a firmness of about 7.
As I mentioned up top, instructions about how to orient the layers on your respective Botanical Bliss are available on the brand’s website.
Another important component of texture is stress, or more especially where pressure points might form while lying on top of a new bed.
Instead of merely describing where these stress spots might crop up, I thought I’d give you a visual representation instead. To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach.
You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back: Lying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the bed, with the soft coating of latex foam working to fill in the space in my thoracic region.
Even for all this sinkage, the responsiveness of the latex made it easy for me to roll around and change positions.
Edge Support: Scooting as close to the side as I could, I noticed some profound compression through the top layers.
While I did not feel as if I’d roll out of bed, I wouldn’t say this mattress had especially solid edge support.
Side: Since side sleepers tend to like softer mattresses, I was not surprised to find that I felt a lot of fantastic pressure relief in this position.
As you can see in the graphic above, I didn’t notice any strain in my shoulders or hips, typical problem areas for people who doze mostly on their own sides.
Stomach: And lastly, once I rolled onto my stomach, I began to feel a little discomfort as the soft nature of the bed caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders.
Stomach sleepers tend to prefer firm beds since they help keep the spine in a pleasant, even line, so those who sleep solely in their stomachs might want to opt for a firmer configuration of the Botanical Bliss. Plushbeds Shop
Plan on sharing your bed with a spouse ? Well then, you will want to keep a tight eye trained on its motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance likely to be felt from one side of the bed to the other.
Essentially, this test will let you know just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s moves in the evening.
To illustrate this, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is intended to symbolize another movement you are likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to complete on jumping (12″).
For those people who aren’t lovers of latex, this interfering bounce is one of the most common complaints related to the material and can be viewed in other all-latex beds, like the Zenhaven.
If purchasing a new bed, most individuals want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it.
To exemplify this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
6 lb medicine ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 6.5 inches of sinkage.
These results are really interesting because while the rebound of the latex helps to combat any sort of stuck-in-the-bed feeling, the mattress itself features an incredible amount of sinkage.
While not exactly the same as contouring, which refers to this sort of cushiony pressure relief you may get at the shoulders and hips from a memory foam bed like the Tempurpedic, the sinkage nonetheless contributes to the Botanical Bliss’ overall soft feel.

IS THE PLUSH BEDS MATTRESS BEST FOR YOU?
Now that we’ve taken a closer look at the Botanical Bliss mattress, I want to highlight some of its greatest pros and cons:
One of my favorite things about this mattress is the way bouncy it is, which could be an attractive feature for those of you looking for buoyant support.
Another significant pro is that the Botanical Bliss sleeps cool. The organic latex is excellent at temperature regulation, ensuring that you won’t snore at night.
And lastly, a big selling point is the organic construction. From the organic wool in the cover into the Dunlop Latex layers, this bad boy is totally green.
As we discussed above, this mattress didn’t have amazing movement transfer results, which means that you’re likely to be disturbed by movements in the night.
Another thing to bear in mind is that you are not going to encounter a good deal of contour here, among the most common complaints about latex that might be a deal breaker for those of you in need of deep pressure relief. Plushbeds Shop
The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress is a fantastic mattress overall. With very good comfort, support, bounce, and cooling, it is hard to look beyond this 100% latex mattress. A natural cotton cover improves airflow and rounds out a healthy outer covering. Additionally, there is a 1″ coating of 100 percent Joma wool underneath the cover which does an excellent job of enhancing breathablity of the mattress as well as absorbing moisture. This helps sleepers keep a cool body temperature during sleep. Overall, the PlushBeds mattress is a wonderful latex mattress that gives an quality level of support in all sleeping positions together with great cooling and a rounded hug / body shape.
