DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Oakview

I’m super excited about the current review since I’ll be having a look at a few of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as lavish as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper could benefit from it most.

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different substances at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. When these sections are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of the three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the most important use of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a sound foundation for the whole.

FIRMNESS

After having a look at the building of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from springs.

At this time I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness otherwise. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion as well.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is pretty firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the remaining testers that it’s definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some small sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Oakview

PRESSURE MAP

Instead of simply describing the feel of this DreamCloud for you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy.

Back:  Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover supplied quality relief in my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I felt encouraged and the very best foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this place.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Oakview

MOTION TRANSFER

If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to learn what it’ll feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from one side of the mattress into another.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great alternative for couples.

When buying a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”to” the mattress or laying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit on the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will interest a broad assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers particularly. Dreamcloud Mattress Oakview

EDGE SUPPORT

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and wish to use the entire surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I am especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression at the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
