DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Manufacturing Locations

I’m super excited about the current review since I’ll be having a look at a few of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy unites high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper would benefit from it .

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the different substances at play here, I’m stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. When these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to stress, so you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations encourages even more cooling.

These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the whole.

FIRMNESS

After taking a look at the building of this DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

At this point I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion as well.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent the this mattress is really firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you from this bed and make you feel as if you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Manufacturing Locations

PRESSURE MAP

Rather than just describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach.

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover supplied quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I felt encouraged and the very best foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this place.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Manufacturing Locations

MOTION TRANSFER

If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to learn what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.

If buying a new bed, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 pound medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will hit on the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Manufacturing Locations

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to consider the quantity of edge support it will provide.

I’m especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to meet the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam border support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
