DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Bbb

I’m super excited about today’s review since I’ll be having a look at one of the newest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper could benefit from it most.

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different substances at play here, I’m stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact with one another.

Cover: The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. When these sections are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to stress, so that you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of these three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations encourages even more cooling.

These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the most important use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire.

FIRMNESS

After taking a look at the construction of this DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from springs.

At this time I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion as well.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is really firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking out of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you from this bed and make you feel as if you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Bbb

PRESSURE MAP

Instead of just describing the feel of the DreamCloud for you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed whatsoever. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I felt supported and the very best foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach:  Shifting over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Bbb

MOTION TRANSFER

If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to know what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great alternative for couples.

If purchasing a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 pound medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit on the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers particularly. Dreamcloud Mattress Bbb

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and wish to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it will provide.

I’m especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam border support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
