DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Dallas Tx
I’m super excited about today’s review because I’ll be taking a look at a few of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy unites high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper could benefit from it most.
Read on below for my full review of the DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Dallas Tx
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact with one another.
Cover: The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers: beneath the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. When these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to stress, so you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer: A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the most important use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the entire.
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
At this time I’d like to remember that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my view on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view also. This gives you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is apparent that this mattress is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the remaining testers that it’s definitely a good bed. As you’ll feel some small sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Rather than simply describing the feel of this DreamCloud for you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can see the effects on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back: Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress whatsoever. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side: As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach: Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these places with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Dallas Tx
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to know what it will feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from one side of the mattress into the other.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great alternative for couples.
When buying a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
- 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
- 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
- 100 pound medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
As you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will hit on the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers particularly. Dreamcloud Mattress Dallas Tx
If you are going to share your bed with a partner and wish to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial that you think about the quantity of edge support it will provide.
I’m particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too spectacular.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression at the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam border support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
