DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Vs Tempurpedic

I’m super excited about today’s review since I’ll be having a look at one of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy unites high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to this goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper would benefit from it most.

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  beneath the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. When these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these small ventilations encourages even more cooling.

These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the most important function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire.

FIRMNESS

After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of this quilted cover and top layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.

At this point I’d like to remember that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view also. This gives you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear the this mattress is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some small sinking out of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of the bed and make you feel as if you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Vs Tempurpedic

Rather than just describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach.

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress whatsoever. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I felt encouraged and the very best foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this place.

Stomach:  Shifting over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Vs Tempurpedic

THE MATTRESS WITH A 365 NIGHT TRIAL & FOREVER WARRANTY

If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse , you’ll want to learn what it’ll feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress into the other.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great alternative for couples.

If buying a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

As you’re going to experience some instant sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will hit on the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers particularly. Dreamcloud Mattress Vs Tempurpedic

If you are going to share your bed with a partner and wish to use the entire surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it will provide.

I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to meet the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam border support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
