DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress In A Box

I’m super excited about today’s review because I’ll be taking a look at one of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy unites high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as lavish as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to this goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper would benefit from it .

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different substances at play here, I am stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. When these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to stress, so that you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations encourages even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the entire.

FIRMNESS

After taking a look at the construction of this DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

At this point I’d like to remember that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion as well.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s apparent the this mattress is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the remaining testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. As you’ll feel some slight sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from the bed and make you feel as if you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress In A Box

PRESSURE MAP

Instead of simply describing the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach.

Back:  Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover supplied quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I felt encouraged and the very best foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this place.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these places with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress In A Box

THE MATTRESS WITH A 365 NIGHT TRIAL & FOREVER WARRANTY

If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to learn what it’ll feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.

SINKAGE TEST

If buying a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 pound medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will interest a broad range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress In A Box

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and wish to use the entire surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial that you think about the quantity of edge support it’ll provide.

I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to meet the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression at the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
