DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Queen Glenmoor Sleeper

I am super excited about today’s review since I’ll be taking a look at a few of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to this goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper would benefit from it most.

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play here, I am stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  Below the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. When these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to stress, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the entire.

FIRMNESS

After having a look at the building of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

At this point I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness otherwise. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion as well. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is really firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the remaining testers that it is definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking out of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you out of this bed and make you feel as if you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Queen Glenmoor Sleeper

PRESSURE MAP

Instead of simply describing the feel of this DreamCloud for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the effects on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I still felt supported and the very best foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this place.

Stomach:  Shifting over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these places with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Queen Glenmoor Sleeper

THE MATTRESS WITH A 365 NIGHT TRIAL & FOREVER WARRANTY

If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to learn what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress into the other.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.

If purchasing a new bed, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”to” the mattress or laying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit on the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will interest a broad assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Queen Glenmoor Sleeper

If you are going to share your bed with a partner and wish to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial that you consider the quantity of edge support it’ll provide.

I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam border support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
