DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Quality Elite Iii

I’m super excited about the current review since I’ll be taking a look at a few of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy unites high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as lavish as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to this goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper could benefit from it .

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play here, I am stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  beneath the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. When these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of these three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations encourages even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the most important use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the whole.

FIRMNESS

After having a look at the construction of this DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils experienced a nice lift from the springs.

At this point I’d like to remember that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness otherwise. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view also.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear the this mattress is really firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking out of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Quality Elite Iii

Instead of simply describing the feel of this DreamCloud for you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back:  Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover supplied quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this place.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Quality Elite Iii

THE MATTRESS WITH A 365 NIGHT TRIAL & FOREVER WARRANTY

If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to learn what it’ll feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to another.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I would still look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great alternative for couples.

When purchasing a new bed, most individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

As you’re going to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will hit on the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a broad range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Quality Elite Iii

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and wish to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it will provide.

I’m especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam border support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
