DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Grovetown

I am super excited about the current review since I’ll be taking a look at one of the newest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy unites high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper could benefit from it .

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different substances at play here, I am stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. When these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the most important function of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a sound foundation for the entire.

FIRMNESS

After having a look at the building of this DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils experienced a nice lift from the springs.

At this point I’d like to remember that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view also.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the remaining testers that it’s definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some small sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you from this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Grovetown

Rather than just describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the effects on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back:  Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover supplied quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I felt encouraged and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these places with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Grovetown

THE MATTRESS WITH A 365 NIGHT TRIAL & FOREVER WARRANTY

If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse , you’ll want to learn what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress into another.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.

When buying a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”to” the mattress or laying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

As you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit on the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Grovetown

EDGE SUPPORT

If you are going to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I am especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to meet the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too spectacular.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression at the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
