DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Eldridge

I’m super excited about the current review since I’ll be having a look at one of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy unites high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper could benefit from it .
Read on below for my full review of this DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Eldridge

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the different substances at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.

These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the most important function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the whole.

FIRMNESS

After having a look at the building of this DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from springs.

At this time I’d like to note that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion as well. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent the this mattress is really firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you out of the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Eldridge

Instead of simply describing the feel of the DreamCloud for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach.

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover supplied quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I felt supported and the very best foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this place.

Stomach:  Shifting over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Eldridge

MOTION TRANSFER

If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to know what it’ll feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still look at the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great alternative for couples.

SINKAGE TEST

When purchasing a new bed, most individuals want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 pound medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a broad range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers particularly. Dreamcloud Mattress Eldridge

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and wish to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial for you to consider the quantity of edge support it will provide.

I’m especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to meet the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression at the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
