DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Riviera
I’m super excited about the current review because I’ll be having a look at one of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper could benefit from it .
Read on below for my full review of this DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Riviera
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the different substances at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact together.
Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers: Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. When these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of these three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.
These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer: A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a sound foundation for the entire.
After having a look at the building of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils experienced a nice lift from springs.
At this time I’d like to remember that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness otherwise. Rather than giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view as well. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking out of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Rather than simply describing the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy.
Back: Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress whatsoever. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side: As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I felt supported and the very best foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach: Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Riviera
If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to know what it’ll feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.
If purchasing a new bed, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”to” the mattress or laying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
- 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
- 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
- 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
- 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit on the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a broad assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Riviera
If you are going to share your bed with a partner and wish to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial that you consider the quantity of edge support it’ll provide.
I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
