DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Email

I am super excited about the current review because I’ll be taking a look at one of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as lavish as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to this goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper could benefit from it most.
Read on below for my full review of the DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Email

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the different substances at play here, I’m stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact with one another.

Cover: The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  beneath the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. When these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of the three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the most important use of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a sound foundation for the entire.

FIRMNESS

After having a look at the building of this DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from springs.

At this point I’d like to remember that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion as well.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the remaining testers that it’s definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking out of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you from the bed and make you feel as if you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Email

PRESSURE MAP

Instead of simply describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back:  Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress whatsoever. The quilted cover supplied quality relief in my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I still felt supported and the very best foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these places with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Email

THE MATTRESS WITH A 365 NIGHT TRIAL & FOREVER WARRANTY

If you intend on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to learn what it’ll feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress into the other.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I’d still look at the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great alternative for couples.

SINKAGE TEST

When buying a new bed, most individuals want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”to” the mattress or laying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

As you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will interest a broad assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Email

If you are going to share your bed with a partner and need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial for you to think about the quantity of edge support it’ll provide.

I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too spectacular.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression at the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
