DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Plush

I am super excited about the current review because I’ll be taking a look at one of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper would benefit from it .
Read on below for my full review of this DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Plush

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the different substances at play here, I’m stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact with one another.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to stress, so you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations encourages even more cooling.

These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a sound foundation for the entire.

FIRMNESS

After having a look at the building of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils experienced a nice lift from springs.

At this point I’d like to note that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my view on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view as well. This gives you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is really firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the remaining testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some small sinking out of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of the bed and make you feel as if you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Plush

Instead of just describing the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the effects on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back:  Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the bed whatsoever. The quilted cover supplied quality relief in my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I still felt encouraged and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach:  Shifting over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these places with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Plush

THE MATTRESS WITH A 365 NIGHT TRIAL & FOREVER WARRANTY

If you intend on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to learn what it’ll feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress into the other.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great alternative for couples.

When purchasing a new bed, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”to” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

As you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Plush

EDGE SUPPORT

If you are going to share your bed with a partner and need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam border support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
