DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Retainer Bar

I’m super excited about the current review since I’ll be having a look at a few of the newest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as lavish as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper would benefit from it most.
Read on below for my full review of the DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Retainer Bar

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different substances at play here, I am stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact with one another.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  beneath the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a sound foundation for the whole.

FIRMNESS

After having a look at the building of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils experienced a nice lift from springs.

At this point I’d like to remember that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my view on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view also. This gives you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is clear the this mattress is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the remaining testers that it is definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you from this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Retainer Bar

PRESSURE MAP

Rather than just describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the effects on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back:  Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover supplied quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this place.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these places with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Retainer Bar

MOTION TRANSFER

If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to know what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that’s detectable from one side of the mattress into the other.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great alternative for couples.

SINKAGE TEST

When purchasing a new bed, most individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re going to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit on the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Retainer Bar

EDGE SUPPORT

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and wish to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial that you think about the quantity of edge support it will provide.

I’m particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to meet the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression at the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
