DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Clearance

I am super excited about the current review since I’ll be taking a look at a few of the newest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper could benefit from it most.
Read on below for my full review of the DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Clearance

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  beneath the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. When these sections are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to stress, so that you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of the three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these small ventilations encourages even more cooling.

These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the whole.

FIRMNESS

After having a look at the building of this DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.

At this time I’d like to note that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness otherwise. As opposed to giving just my view on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view as well. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s apparent the this mattress is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some small sinking out of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of the bed and make you feel as if you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Clearance

PRESSURE MAP

Rather than simply describing the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach.

Back:  Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover supplied quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt encouraged and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this place.

Stomach:  Shifting over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these places with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Clearance

MOTION TRANSFER

If you intend on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to learn what it’ll feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to another.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great alternative for couples.

If purchasing a new bed, most people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”to” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will hit on the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers particularly. Dreamcloud Mattress Clearance

If you are going to share your bed with a partner and wish to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I’m particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
