DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Icomfort Twin Xl Mattress

I am super excited about today’s review because I’ll be taking a look at one of the newest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper could benefit from it .
Read on below for my full review of this DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Icomfort Twin Xl Mattress

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact with one another.

Cover: The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  Below the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to stress, so you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations encourages even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the most important function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the entire.

FIRMNESS

After taking a look at the construction of this DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from springs.

At this point I’d like to remember that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness otherwise. Rather than giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view as well. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is clear that this mattress is really firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a good bed. As you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Icomfort Twin Xl Mattress

PRESSURE MAP

Rather than just describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy.

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress whatsoever. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported and the very best foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these places with relative ease. Dreamcloud Icomfort Twin Xl Mattress

MOTION TRANSFER

If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to know what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress into the other.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great alternative for couples.

When buying a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 pound medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

As you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit on the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers particularly. Dreamcloud Icomfort Twin Xl Mattress

If you are going to share your bed with a partner and wish to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too spectacular.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam border support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
