DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Used In Hotels

I am super excited about the current review because I’ll be taking a look at one of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as lavish as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper would benefit from it .

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different substances at play here, I’m stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  Below the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to stress, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a solid foundation for the entire.

FIRMNESS

After taking a look at the building of this DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of this quilted cover and top layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils experienced a pleasant lift from springs.

At this point I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness otherwise. As opposed to giving just my view on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion also.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is clear the this mattress is pretty firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. As you’ll feel some slight sinking out of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you out of the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Used In Hotels

Rather than just describing the feel of this DreamCloud for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported and the very best foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Used In Hotels

MOTION TRANSFER

If you intend on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to know what it will feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to another.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d still look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great alternative for couples.

If buying a new bed, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”to” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

As you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit on the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Used In Hotels

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it will provide.

I’m particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to meet the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too spectacular.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
