DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Queensport Mattress

I am super excited about today’s review since I’ll be taking a look at a few of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to this goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper would benefit from it .
Read on below for my full review of this DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Queensport Mattress

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different substances at play here, I am stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact with one another.

Cover: The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  Below the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to stress, so that you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations encourages even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the most important function of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a sound foundation for the whole.

FIRMNESS

After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from springs.

At this time I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness otherwise. As opposed to giving just my view on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion also.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is apparent that this mattress is really firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the remaining testers that it is definitely a good bed. As you’ll feel some small sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you out of the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Queensport Mattress

PRESSURE MAP

Rather than simply describing the feel of the DreamCloud for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt encouraged and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this place.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Queensport Mattress

THE MATTRESS WITH A 365 NIGHT TRIAL & FOREVER WARRANTY

If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to learn what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to another.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still look at the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.

If purchasing a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”to” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 pound medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

As you’re going to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit on the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a broad range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers particularly. Dreamcloud Queensport Mattress

EDGE SUPPORT

If you are going to share your bed with a partner and need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to meet the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too spectacular.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam border support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
