DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Applause 2
I am super excited about today’s review since I’ll be having a look at a few of the newest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to this goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper would benefit from it most.

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different substances at play here, I’m stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact with one another.
Cover: The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers: Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these small ventilations encourages even more cooling.
These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer: A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a solid foundation for the whole.
After having a look at the building of this DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils experienced a pleasant lift from springs.
At this point I’d like to remember that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view as well.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent the this mattress is really firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the remaining testers that it is definitely a solid bed. As you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you from the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Instead of just describing the feel of the DreamCloud for you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy.
Back: Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side: As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt encouraged and the very best foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach: Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Applause 2
If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to know what it’ll feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I would still look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great alternative for couples.
When buying a new bed, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
- 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
- 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
- 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
- 100 pound medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
As you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers particularly. Dreamcloud Mattress Applause 2
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and wish to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to think about the quantity of edge support it’ll provide.
I’m particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to meet the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam border support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
