DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Vs Amerisleep

I’m super excited about today’s review because I’ll be having a look at one of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper would benefit from it .
Read on below for my full review of this DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Vs Amerisleep

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different substances at play here, I am stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  beneath the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to stress, so that you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of the three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations encourages even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a solid foundation for the whole.

FIRMNESS

After taking a look at the building of this DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from springs.

At this point I’d like to note that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness otherwise. Rather than giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion also.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is really firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking out of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you out of this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Vs Amerisleep

PRESSURE MAP

Instead of simply describing the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach.

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress whatsoever. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I felt encouraged and the very best foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach:  Shifting over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these places with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Vs Amerisleep

MOTION TRANSFER

If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse , you’ll want to know what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress into the other.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I’d still look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.

SINKAGE TEST

If buying a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 pound medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

As you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit on the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Vs Amerisleep

EDGE SUPPORT

If you are going to share your bed with a partner and need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to consider the quantity of edge support it’ll provide.

I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to meet the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression at the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
