DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Models

I am super excited about the current review since I’ll be taking a look at one of the newest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy unites high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as lavish as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper could benefit from it most.
Read on below for my full review of this DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Models

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the different substances at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  beneath the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. When these sections are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of these three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a sound foundation for the entire.

FIRMNESS

After having a look at the construction of this DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from springs.

At this point I’d like to remember that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion as well. This gives you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear the this mattress is pretty firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some small sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you from this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Models

PRESSURE MAP

Rather than just describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy.

Back:  Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover supplied quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt encouraged and the very best foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach:  Shifting over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Models

THE MATTRESS WITH A 365 NIGHT TRIAL & FOREVER WARRANTY

If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to know what it’ll feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to another.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I’d still look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.

SINKAGE TEST

When purchasing a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit on the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a broad range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Models

If you are going to share your bed with a partner and wish to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I’m particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too spectacular.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam border support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
