DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Reviews 2017
I am super excited about today’s review since I’ll be taking a look at a few of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper could benefit from it .
Read on below for my full review of this DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Reviews 2017
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different substances at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact with one another.
Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers: beneath the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. When these sections are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these small ventilations promotes even more cooling.
These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer: A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the most important use of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a solid foundation for the whole.
After having a look at the building of this DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of this quilted cover and top layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
At this point I’d like to remember that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view also. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is really firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the remaining testers that it is definitely a solid bed. As you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from the bed and make you feel as if you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Instead of just describing the feel of the DreamCloud for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy.
Back: Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress whatsoever. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side: As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this place.
Stomach: Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these places with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Reviews 2017
If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to learn what it will feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress into the other.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.
If buying a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”to” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
- 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
- 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
- 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
- 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
As you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will interest a broad assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Reviews 2017
If you are going to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.
I am especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to meet the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression at the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
