DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Milwaukee

I am super excited about today’s review because I’ll be having a look at a few of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to this goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper could benefit from it .

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  beneath the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. When these sections are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to stress, so that you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of these three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the most important function of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a solid foundation for the entire.

FIRMNESS

After taking a look at the building of this DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

At this point I’d like to remember that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion also.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is really firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a good bed. As you’ll feel some small sinking out of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of this bed and make you feel as if you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Milwaukee

PRESSURE MAP

Instead of just describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy.

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover supplied quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported and the very best foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Milwaukee

MOTION TRANSFER

If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to know what it’ll feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great alternative for couples.

SINKAGE TEST

When purchasing a new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”to” the mattress or laying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 pound medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

As you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will hit on the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a broad range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers particularly. Dreamcloud Mattress Milwaukee

If you are going to share your bed with a partner and wish to use the entire surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial for you to consider the quantity of edge support it’ll provide.

I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to meet the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression at the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
