DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Like Tempur Pedic

I’m super excited about the current review since I’ll be taking a look at one of the newest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper would benefit from it most.

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different substances at play here, I am stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  beneath the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to stress, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these small ventilations encourages even more cooling.

These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the entire.

FIRMNESS

After taking a look at the building of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils experienced a nice lift from the springs.

At this time I’d like to remember that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view also.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the remaining testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. As you’ll feel some small sinking out of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from this bed and make you feel as if you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Like Tempur Pedic

Rather than simply describing the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy.

Back:  Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover supplied quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I still felt encouraged and the very best foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this place.

Stomach:  Shifting over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Like Tempur Pedic

THE MATTRESS WITH A 365 NIGHT TRIAL & FOREVER WARRANTY

If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse , you’ll want to learn what it will feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress into the other.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d still look at the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great alternative for couples.

SINKAGE TEST

If buying a new bed, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”to” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

As you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers particularly. Dreamcloud Mattress Like Tempur Pedic

EDGE SUPPORT

If you are going to share your bed with a partner and wish to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to think about the quantity of edge support it’ll provide.

I’m particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too spectacular.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression at the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
