DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Bangor Area
I am super excited about the current review since I’ll be having a look at one of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy unites high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as lavish as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to this goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper could benefit from it most.
Read on below for my full review of the DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Bangor Area
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the different substances at play here, I am stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact with one another.
Cover: The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers: Below the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. When these sections are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.
These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer: A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the most important function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire.
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
At this time I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my view on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view also. This gives you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent the this mattress is really firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the remaining testers that it is definitely a solid bed. As you’ll feel some small sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you out of the bed and make you feel as if you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Rather than simply describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the effects on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back: Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed whatsoever. The quilted cover supplied quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side: As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I felt supported and the very best foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this place.
Stomach: Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these places with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Bangor Area
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to learn what it will feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress into another.
To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great alternative for couples.
If buying a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
- 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
- 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
- 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
As you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will hit the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers particularly. Dreamcloud Mattress Bangor Area
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and wish to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it will provide.
I am especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to meet the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too spectacular.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam border support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
