DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Massage

I’m super excited about the current review since I’ll be taking a look at a few of the newest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy unites high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to this goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper could benefit from it most.

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play here, I am stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  beneath the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. When these sections are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to stress, so you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a sound foundation for the entire.

FIRMNESS

After having a look at the building of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.

At this time I’d like to remember that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view also.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is really firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a solid bed. As you’ll feel some small sinking out of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you from this bed and make you feel as if you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Massage

PRESSURE MAP

Rather than just describing the feel of the DreamCloud for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back:  Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I still felt supported and the very best foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach:  Shifting over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these places with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Massage

THE MATTRESS WITH A 365 NIGHT TRIAL & FOREVER WARRANTY

If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to know what it’ll feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I’d still look at the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.

SINKAGE TEST

When purchasing a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

As you’re going to experience some instant sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will interest a broad assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers particularly. Dreamcloud Mattress Massage

EDGE SUPPORT

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial for you to think about the quantity of edge support it’ll provide.

I’m especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too spectacular.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression at the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
