DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress You Can Flip

I’m super excited about today’s review because I’ll be having a look at one of the newest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy unites high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper could benefit from it most.

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play here, I am stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. When these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to stress, so that you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these small ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils: The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a sound foundation for the entire.

FIRMNESS

After taking a look at the construction of this DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils experienced a nice lift from the springs.

At this time I’d like to remember that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my view on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view also.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you from this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress You Can Flip

Instead of just describing the feel of the DreamCloud for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress You Can Flip

MOTION TRANSFER

If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to know what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from one side of the mattress into another.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.

If buying a new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

As you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit on the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a broad assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress You Can Flip

EDGE SUPPORT

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and wish to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it will provide.

I am especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing too spectacular.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression at the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam border support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
