DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Queen Ethereal
I’m super excited about the current review since I’ll be having a look at one of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy unites high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as lavish as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper would benefit from it .
Read on below for my full review of the DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Queen Ethereal
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different substances at play here, I am stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact together.
Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers: Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to stress, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations encourages even more cooling.
These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer: A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a solid foundation for the entire.
After having a look at the building of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
At this point I’d like to note that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my view on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view as well. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is clear the this mattress is pretty firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. As you’ll feel some slight sinking out of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you from this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Instead of simply describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach.
Back: Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side: As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I felt encouraged and the very best foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this place.
Stomach: Shifting over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these places with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Queen Ethereal
If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to learn what it will feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress into another.
To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I would still look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great alternative for couples.
When buying a new bed, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
- 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
- 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
- 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
- 100 pound medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a broad range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Queen Ethereal
If you are going to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial that you consider the quantity of edge support it’ll provide.
I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to meet the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam border support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
