DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Company History

I’m super excited about the current review since I’ll be taking a look at one of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy unites high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as lavish as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper could benefit from it .

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different substances at play here, I am stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  beneath the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. When these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to stress, so you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations encourages even more cooling.

These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the most important function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire.

FIRMNESS

After taking a look at the building of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.

At this time I’d like to remember that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion as well. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear the this mattress is pretty firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a good bed. As you’ll feel some slight sinking out of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Company History

PRESSURE MAP

Instead of just describing the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress whatsoever. The quilted cover supplied quality relief in my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this place.

Stomach:  Shifting over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these places with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Company History

THE MATTRESS WITH A 365 NIGHT TRIAL & FOREVER WARRANTY

If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to know what it will feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.

SINKAGE TEST

If buying a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 pound medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will hit on the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will interest a broad assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Company History

If you are going to share your bed with a partner and wish to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I’m particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to meet the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too spectacular.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression at the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
