DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Big Lots

I am super excited about the current review because I’ll be taking a look at a few of the newest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy unites high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to this goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper could benefit from it .
Read on below for my full review of this DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Big Lots

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact with one another.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  Below the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. When these sections are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.

These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a sound foundation for the whole.

FIRMNESS

After having a look at the building of this DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils experienced a pleasant lift from springs.

At this point I’d like to remember that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness otherwise. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion also. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent the this mattress is pretty firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. As you’ll feel some slight sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Big Lots

PRESSURE MAP

Instead of just describing the feel of the DreamCloud for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach.

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover supplied quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I felt encouraged and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Big Lots

MOTION TRANSFER

If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to learn what it will feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress into the other.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great alternative for couples.

When purchasing a new bed, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Big Lots

EDGE SUPPORT

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and wish to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial for you to think about the quantity of edge support it will provide.

I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to meet the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too spectacular.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
