DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Lynbrook

I’m super excited about the current review because I’ll be taking a look at one of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to this goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper could benefit from it .

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the different substances at play here, I am stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to stress, so that you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations encourages even more cooling.

These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a solid foundation for the whole.

FIRMNESS

After taking a look at the construction of this DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of this quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.

At this time I’d like to remember that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness otherwise. As opposed to giving just my view on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion as well. This gives you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent the this mattress is really firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. As you’ll feel some slight sinking out of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you from the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Lynbrook

Instead of just describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the effects on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed whatsoever. The quilted cover supplied quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt encouraged and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this place.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Lynbrook

MOTION TRANSFER

If you intend on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to know what it’ll feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to another.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.

When buying a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”to” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 pound medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit on the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers particularly. Dreamcloud Mattress Lynbrook

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to consider the quantity of edge support it will provide.

I am especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
