DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress At Kmart

I am super excited about the current review because I’ll be having a look at a few of the newest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to this goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper would benefit from it most.
Read on below for my full review of this DreamCloud mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress At Kmart

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different substances at play here, I am stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  beneath the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to stress, so you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations encourages even more cooling.

These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the most important function of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a solid foundation for the whole.

FIRMNESS

After having a look at the construction of this DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

At this point I’d like to note that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion as well.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear the this mattress is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the remaining testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. As you’ll feel some slight sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress At Kmart

PRESSURE MAP

Instead of simply describing the feel of the DreamCloud for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy.

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress At Kmart

MOTION TRANSFER

If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse , you’ll want to know what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great alternative for couples.

When buying a new bed, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”to” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit on the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress At Kmart

EDGE SUPPORT

If you are going to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I am especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to meet the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too spectacular.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
