But just how well does it live up to this assignment? That’s what I am here to learn, by putting it through a series of rigorous tests to figure out its feel, the way that it sleeps and whether or not it could be the mattress of your dreams.
Read on below for my full review of this PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress.
The Botanical Bliss is built with three 3″ layers of natural Dunlop Latex.
Unlike Talalay Latex, which often has a light and airy feel, Dunlop is dense and makes for a firmer structure.
Here, all the three Dunlop sections is categorized as either Soft, Medium or Firm, and can be arranged in whatever order best suits the sleeper.
In accordance with PlushBeds, there are a total of six distinct firmnesses for every mattress, using a split firmness option available for King and Cal King sizes.
Worried you won’t have the ability to determine how to configure the layers to your liking? No sweat! The brand offers a series of graphics on its site detailing all of the various ways to orient the latex segments.
Plus, if you’re still not happy with the feel, PlushBeds is pleased to throw in an additional Firm layer of latex for more support.
For the purpose of my review, I will be looking at the Botanical Bliss at the”Soft” orientation, which has the Soft layer on top, the Moderate layer in the middle and the Firm segment as the base.
But enough talk! Let’s dive into this plush latex mattress and see what is going on inside.
Cover: made out of organic cotton and wool, the cover is soft and provides the sleeper with some satisfying comfort.
Latex Layers: As I mentioned up top, the following three sections are comprised of 100% all-natural Dunlop Latex.
This material is dense and has a fast response to stress , making a bed that is incredibly bouncy. Compared to memory foam, latex does not feature much if any contouring, so you are unlikely to feel stuck in the mattress.
Another thing you’re most likely to notice with latex is that it sleeps cool, so could be an excellent option for those of you who are inclined to sleep hot during the night.
As far as the texture in this particular configuration is concerned, placing the Soft layer up top allows for some initial deep sinkage into the bed, which is buffered marginally by the Moderate latex section as the sleeper transitions into the Firm base under.
The Botanical Bliss‘ construction is also noteworthy because it’s a 100% certified organic mattress, which means all its materials are accredited by the International Organic Latex Standard and the International Organic Textile Standard.
Plus, the mattress is also GREENGUARD Gold Certified, ensuring that the mattress has fulfilled some of the world’s most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds into indoor air. Plush Beds Adjustable Foundation
After taking a look at the construction of the Botanical Bliss, let us talk about the firmness and texture.
I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and discovered that I was immediately interacting with the soft wool cover.
Pressing in further, I encountered the buoyant lift of the latex layers, which propelled me up and from the structure.
Since folks of different sizes, weights and shapes will feel firmness differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to help me figure out just how firm the Botanical Bliss is.
We all took a turn lying about the plush organic mattress, gave it a personal firmness rating and then compiled them on the chart below.
While feel is always likely to be a single thing, this will hopefully give you a great sense of the firmness range you can expect from this bed.
Aside from one outlier, we were mostly in agreement about the firmness of the Botanical Bliss, landing on an average rating of 5.4.
When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it seems as though this bed is really soft.
I personally gave the mattress a 5. While the bounce of the latex is likely to keep you positioned on top of the bed, the material is surprisingly gentle, allowing for some pretty deep sinkage throughout the mattress.
Keep in mind that we are only taking a look at the bed in its”Moderate” orientation and that changing around the layers could make it firmer or softer.
For more specific, the Botanical Bliss Moderate provides a firmness range from 5-7 using gentle, medium and firm layers of latex.
The Botanical Bliss Firm runs from 7-9 and only utilizes medium, firm and extra firm latex. These various sections can be moved around to create 6 unique configurations, representing a subtle gradient within the prescribed selection.
If we swapped across the layers in our bed to have a firm layer up top, a medium transition section and a soft base, we’d wind up with a bed that had a firmness of about 7.
As I mentioned up top, instructions about the best way to orient the layers on your individual Botanical Bliss are available on the brand’s website.
Another important component of texture is stress, or more especially where pressure points might kind while lying on top of a brand new bed.
Rather than merely describing where these tension spots might crop up, I thought I’d provide you a visual representation instead. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach.
You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back: Lying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the bed, with the soft layer of latex foam working to fill in the space in my thoracic region.
Even for this sinkage, the responsiveness of the latex made it easy for me to roll around and change positions.
Edge Support: Scooting as close to the side as I could, I noticed some profound compression through the top layers.
While I didn’t feel as if I’d roll out of bed, I wouldn’t say this mattress had particularly good edge support.
Side: Since side sleepers have a tendency to enjoy softer mattresses, I wasn’t surprised to discover that I felt a lot of fantastic pressure relief in this position.
As you can see in the picture above, I didn’t notice any strain in my shoulders or hips, typical problem areas for those who doze primarily on their own sides.
Stomach: And lastly, after I rolled on my stomach, I began to feel a little discomfort as the soft nature of the bed caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders.
Stomach sleepers tend to prefer firm beds as they help to keep the spine in a nice, even line, so those who sleep solely on their stomachs may want to opt for a firmer configuration of the Botanical Bliss. Plush Beds Adjustable Foundation
Plan on sharing your bed with a spouse ? Well then, you will want to keep a tight eye trained on its own motion transfer, or the quantity of disturbance likely to be felt from one side of the bed to the other.
Basically, this test will inform you just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s movements in the evening.
To exemplify this, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
FYI: Each fall is meant to symbolize another movement you are likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to complete on jumping (12″).
For those who aren’t lovers of latex, this interfering bounce is one of the most frequent complaints related to the substance and can be seen in other all-latex beds, like the Zenhaven.
If purchasing a new bed, most individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”to” the mattress or lying”on top” of it.
To exemplify this sinkage, I placed four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
6 lb medicine ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
10 pound steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 6.5 inches of sinkage.
These results are really interesting because while the bounce of the latex certainly helps to combat any sort of stuck-in-the-bed feeling, the mattress itself features an extraordinary amount of sinkage.
While not exactly the same as contouring, which refers to the sort of cushiony pressure relief you may get in the shoulders and hips from a memory foam mattress like the Tempurpedic, the sinkage nonetheless contributes to the Botanical Bliss’ overall soft feel.

IS THE PLUSH BEDS MATTRESS RIGHT FOR YOU?
Now that we have taken a closer look at the Botanical Bliss mattress, I want to highlight some of its greatest pros and cons:
One of my favorite things about this mattress is how bouncy it’s , which could be an attractive feature for those of you looking for buoyant support.
Another major pro is that the Botanical Bliss sleeps cool. The all-natural latex is excellent at temperature regulation, ensuring that you won’t snore at night.
And lastly, a huge selling point is the organic construction. From the natural wool in the cover into the Dunlop Latex layers, this bad boy is wholly green.
As we mentioned previously, this mattress didn’t have amazing motion transfer results, meaning you’re likely to be disturbed by movements in the evening.
Another factor to keep in mind is that you’re not going to experience a good deal of shape here, one of the most common complaints about latex that could be a deal breaker for those of you in need of deep pressure relief. Plush Beds Adjustable Foundation
The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress is a fantastic mattress overall. With very superior comfort, support, bounce, and cooling, it’s hard to look past this 100% latex mattress. A natural cotton cover enhances airflow and rounds out a healthy outer covering. Additionally, there is a 1″ coating of 100% Joma wool underneath the cover which does a great job of improving breathablity of the mattress as well as absorbing moisture. This helps sleepers maintain a cool body temperature during sleep. Overall, the PlushBeds mattress is a wonderful latex mattress that provides an quality level of support in all sleeping positions along with terrific cooling and a rounded hug / body contour.
