DreamCloud Mattress Review Mattresses Dreamcloud Shipped

I am super excited about the current review because I’ll be having a look at one of the newest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To see how well this hybrid lives up to that goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper would benefit from it most.
Read on below for my full review of the DreamCloud mattress. Mattresses Dreamcloud Shipped

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play here, I am stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  beneath the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. When these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck at the mattress. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations promotes even more cooling.

These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the most important function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the whole.

FIRMNESS

After taking a look at the building of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from springs.

At this time I’d like to note that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness otherwise. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view as well. This gives you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is apparent the this mattress is really firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the remaining testers that it is definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some small sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of the bed and make you feel as if you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Mattresses Dreamcloud Shipped

PRESSURE MAP

Rather than just describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover supplied quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I felt encouraged and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this place.

Stomach:  Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a excellent job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease. Mattresses Dreamcloud Shipped

THE MATTRESS WITH A 365 NIGHT TRIAL & FOREVER WARRANTY

If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse , you’ll want to know what it will feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to another.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.

If purchasing a new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

As you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers particularly. Mattresses Dreamcloud Shipped

EDGE SUPPORT

If you are going to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial that you consider the quantity of edge support it’ll provide.

I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to meet the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle . Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing too spectacular.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam border support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
