DreamCloud Mattress Review Dreamcloud Mattress Elmridge Versus Glenmoor

I’m super excited about the current review since I’ll be taking a look at a few of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress. This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils to get a sleeping experience that promises to be as luxurious as it is supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to this goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what kind of sleeper would benefit from it .

CONSTRUCTION

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play here, I am stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact together.

Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers:  beneath the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to stress, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of the three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations encourages even more cooling.

These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer:  A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a solid foundation for the whole.

FIRMNESS

After taking a look at the building of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

At this time I’d like to remember that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness otherwise. Rather than giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion as well.

DreamCloud-Firmness-Test

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the business standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is clear that this mattress is really firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the remaining testers that it is definitely a solid bed. As you’ll feel some slight sinking out of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you out of the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Dreamcloud Mattress Elmridge Versus Glenmoor

Rather than just describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back:  Once in my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side: As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this place.

Stomach:  Shifting over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease. Dreamcloud Mattress Elmridge Versus Glenmoor

MOTION TRANSFER

If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to learn what it will feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d still look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.

If buying a new bed, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or placing”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

  • 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
  • 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
  • 100 pound medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

As you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support. This combo will interest a broad assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular. Dreamcloud Mattress Elmridge Versus Glenmoor

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I am especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a small compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression at the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam border support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
