PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Mattress Review Plushbeds Bbb Rating
If you’re trying to snag an eco-friendly mattress to your bedroom, you might want to take into account the Botanical Bliss mattress from PlushBeds. Built with organic latex, this bed aims to be as great for your sleep hygiene as it is for the environment. Plushbeds Bbb Rating
But just how well does it live up to this mission? That’s what I’m here to learn, by putting it through a series of rigorous tests to find out its feel, how it sleeps and whether it could be the mattress of your dreams.
Continue reading below for my full review of the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress.
The Botanical Bliss is constructed with three 3″ layers of natural Dunlop Latex.
Unlike Talalay Latex, which often has a light and airy feel, Dunlop is dense and makes for a firmer structure.
Here, each of the three Dunlop segments is categorized as either Soft, Medium or Firm, and can be arranged in whatever order best suits the sleeper.
In accordance with PlushBeds, there are a total of six different firmnesses for each mattress, with a split firmness option available for King and Cal King sizes.
Worried you won’t have the ability to determine how to configure the layers to your liking? No sweat! The brand offers a series of graphics on its site detailing all the various ways to orient the latex segments.
Plus, if you’re still not satisfied with the feel, PlushBeds is happy to throw in an extra Firm layer of latex for more support.
For the purpose of my review, I’ll be looking at the Botanical Bliss in the”Soft” orientation, which has the Soft layer on top, the Medium layer in the middle and the Firm segment as the foundation .
But enough talk! Let’s dive into this lavish latex mattress and see what’s going on inside.
Cover: made out of organic wool and cotton, the cover is soft and provides the sleeper with a few satisfying comfort.
Latex Layers: As I mentioned up top, the following few sections are comprised of 100% all-natural Dunlop Latex.
This substance is compact and has a quick response to pressure, creating a bed that is incredibly bouncy. Compared to memory foam, latex does not feature much if any contouring, so you are unlikely to feel stuck in the mattress.
One more thing you’re likely to notice with latex is that it sleeps cool, so could be an excellent option for those who are inclined to sleep hot at night.
So far as the texture in this particular configuration is concerned, placing the Soft layer up top allows for some first deep sinkage into the bed, which is buffered marginally by the Moderate latex section as the sleeper transitions into the Firm base under.
The Botanical Bliss‘ structure is also noteworthy because it’s a 100% certified organic mattress, which means all of its materials are accredited by the Global Organic Latex Standard and the Global Organic Textile Standard.
Plus, the bed is also GREENGUARD Gold Certified, making sure that the mattress has met some of the world’s most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds into indoor air. Plushbeds Bbb Rating
After taking a look at the construction of the Botanical Bliss, let us talk about the firmness and texture.
I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and discovered that I was instantly interacting with the soft wool cover.
Pressing in further, I encountered the buoyant lift of the latex layers, which propelled me up and from the structure.
Since people of different sizes, weights and shapes are going to feel firmness otherwise, I decided to bring in three other testers to help me determine just how firm the Botanical Bliss is.
We each took a turn lying on the plush organic mattress, gave it a private firmness score and then compiled them on the chart below.
While feel is always likely to be a single thing, this will hopefully give you a great sense of the firmness range you can expect from this bed.
Aside from one outlier, we were largely in agreement about the firmness of the Botanical Bliss, landing on an average rating of 5.4.
In comparison to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it seems as though this bed is really soft.
I personally gave the mattress a 5. While the bounce of the latex is likely to keep you positioned on top of the bed, the material is surprisingly gentle, allowing for a few pretty deep sinkage throughout the mattress.
Bear in mind that we are only taking a look at the mattress in its”Moderate” orientation and that changing around the layers can make it either firmer or softer.
For more specific, the Botanical Bliss Medium provides a firmness range from 5-7 using soft, medium and firm layers of latex.
The Botanical Bliss Firm runs from 7-9 and only utilizes medium, firm and extra firm latex. These various sections can be moved around to make 6 unique configurations, representing a subtle gradient within the prescribed selection.
So if we swapped across the layers in our bed to have a firm layer up top, a medium transition segment and a soft foundation, we’d wind up with a bed which had a firmness of about 7.
As I mentioned up top, instructions on how to orient the layers in your respective Botanical Bliss are available on the brand’s website.
Another important part of texture is stress, or more specifically where pressure points might form while lying on top of a brand new bed.
Instead of merely describing where these tension spots might crop up, I thought I’d give you a visual representation rather. To do this, I placed a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach.
You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back: Lying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the bed, with the soft layer of latex foam working to fill in the space at my lumbar region.
Even for this sinkage, the responsiveness of the latex made it effortless for me to roll around and change positions.
Edge Support: Scooting as close to the side as I could, I detected some profound compression through the top layers.
While I did not feel as if I’d roll out of bed, I would not say this mattress had especially good edge support.
Side: Since side sleepers have a tendency to like softer mattresses, I wasn’t surprised to discover that I felt a lot of fantastic pressure relief in this position.
As you can see in the graphic above, I did not notice any strain in my shoulders or hips, typical problem areas for those who doze primarily on their sides.
Stomach: And finally, once I rolled onto my stomach, I started to feel a bit of discomfort as the soft nature of the bed caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders.
Stomach sleepers tend to prefer firm beds since they help to keep the spine in a pleasant, even line, so those who sleep solely on their stomachs might want to decide on a firmer configuration of the Botanical Bliss. Plushbeds Bbb Rating
Plan on sharing your bed with a spouse ? Well then, you’ll want to keep a tight eye trained on its motion move, or the amount of disturbance likely to be felt from one side of the bed to the other.
Essentially, this test will let you know just how bothered you’ll be by your bed partner’s moves in the evening.
To illustrate this, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each fall is meant to symbolize a different movement you’re likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
For those who aren’t lovers of latex, this interfering bounce is one of the most frequent complaints associated with the substance and can be seen in other all-latex beds, like the Zenhaven.
When purchasing a new bed, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it.
To illustrate this sinkage, I put four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
6 lb medicine ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
10 pound steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 pound medicine ball: 6.5 inches of sinkage.
These results are really interesting because while the bounce of the latex certainly helps to combat any type of stuck-in-the-bed feeling, the mattress itself features an extraordinary amount of sinkage.
While not the same as contouring, which refers to this sort of cushiony pressure relief you might get in the shoulders and buttocks from a memory foam bed like the Tempurpedic, the sinkage nonetheless contributes to the Botanical Bliss’ overall soft texture.
Sleep Trial: 100 days.
Warranty: 25 years.

IS THE PLUSH BEDS MATTRESS BEST FOR YOU?
Now that we’ve taken a closer look at the Botanical Bliss mattress, I want to highlight some of its greatest pros and cons:
One of my favorite things about this mattress is the way bouncy it is, which might be an attractive feature for those looking for buoyant support.
Another major pro is that the Botanical Bliss sleeps cool. The all-natural latex is fantastic at temperature regulation, ensuring that you won’t overheat at night.
And finally, a huge selling point is the organic construction. From the organic wool in the cover to the Dunlop Latex layers, this bad boy is totally green.
As we mentioned above, this mattress did not have amazing movement transfer results, meaning you’re likely to be disturbed by movements in the night.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you’re not going to experience a good deal of shape here, among the most common complaints about latex that might be a deal breaker for those of you in need of deep pressure relief. Plushbeds Bbb Rating
The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress is a good mattress overall. With very superior comfort, support, bounce, and cooling, it is hard to look beyond this 100% latex mattress. An organic cotton cover improves airflow and rounds out a healthy outer covering. Additionally, there’s a 1″ coating of 100% Joma wool underneath the cover which does an excellent job of enhancing breathablity of the mattress as well as absorbing moisture. This helps sleepers keep a cool body temperature during sleep. All in all, the PlushBeds mattress is a nice latex mattress that provides an quality level of support in all sleeping positions along with great cooling and a round hug / body contour.
