But just how well does it live up to this assignment? That’s what I am here to learn, by putting it through a series of rigorous tests to figure out its feel, the way that it sleeps and whether or not it could be the mattress of your dreams.
Continue reading below for my full review of the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress.
The Botanical Bliss is constructed with three 3″ layers of natural Dunlop Latex.
Unlike Talalay Latex, which often has a light and airy feel, Dunlop is dense and makes for a firmer structure.
Here, all the three Dunlop sections is categorized as either Soft, Medium or Firm, and can be arranged in whatever order best matches the sleeper.
According to PlushBeds, there are a total of six different firmnesses for every mattress, with a split firmness option available for King and Cal King sizes.
Worried you won’t be able to figure out how to configure the layers to your liking? No sweat! The brand offers a set of graphics on its site detailing all of the various ways to orient the latex sections.
Additionally, if you’re still not satisfied with the feel, PlushBeds is pleased to throw in an extra Firm layer of latex to get more support.
For the purpose of my review, I will be looking at the Botanical Bliss at the”Soft” orientation, which has the Soft layer on top, the Moderate layer in the center and the Firm section as the base.
But enough talk! Let’s dive into this lavish latex mattress and see what’s going on inside.
Cover: made out of organic wool and cotton, the cover is soft and provides the sleeper with a few satisfying comfort.
Latex Layers: As I mentioned up top, the following few sections are comprised of 100% all-natural Dunlop Latex.
This substance is compact and has a quick response to pressure, creating a bed that is incredibly bouncy. Compared to memory foam, latex doesn’t feature much if any contouring, so you’re unlikely to feel stuck at the mattress.
Another thing you’re most likely to notice with latex is that it sleeps cool, so could be an excellent option for those who are inclined to sleep hot at night.
As far as the feel in this specific configuration is concerned, placing the Soft layer up top allows for some initial deep sinkage to the mattress, which is buffered marginally by the Moderate latex segment as the sleeper transitions into the Firm base below.
The Botanical Bliss‘ construction is also noteworthy because it’s a 100% certified organic mattress, which means all its materials are licensed by the International Organic Latex Standard and the International Organic Textile Standard.
Additionally, the bed is also GREENGUARD Gold Certified, ensuring that the mattress has fulfilled some of the world’s most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds into indoor air. Plush Beds Organic Mattress
After taking a look at the construction of the Botanical Bliss, let’s chat about the firmness and texture.
I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and found that I was instantly interacting with the soft wool cover.
Pressing in further, I encountered the buoyant lift of the latex layers, which propelled me up and out of the structure.
Since people of different sizes, weights and shapes are going to feel firmness differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to help me figure out how firm the Botanical Bliss is.
We all took a turn lying about the plush organic mattress, gave it a private firmness score and then compiled them on the graph below.
While feel is always going to be a single thing, this will hopefully give you a good sense of the firmness range you can expect from this bed.
Aside from one outlier, we were largely in agreement about the firmness of the Botanical Bliss, landing on an average rating of 5.4.
When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness, it seems as though this bed is pretty soft.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 5. While the bounce of the latex is very likely to keep you positioned on top of the bed, the material is surprisingly gentle, allowing for some pretty deep sinkage throughout the mattress.
Keep in mind that we are only taking a look at the bed in its”Medium” orientation and that changing around the layers could make it firmer or softer.
To get more specific, the Botanical Bliss Medium provides a firmness range from 5-7 using soft, medium and firm layers of latex.
The Botanical Bliss Firm runs from 7-9 and only utilizes medium, firm and extra firm latex. These different sections can be moved around to create 6 unique configurations, representing a subtle gradient within the prescribed range.
So if we swapped across the layers in our bed to have a firm layer up top, a medium transition section and a soft base, we’d wind up with a bed which had a firmness of about 7.
As I mentioned up top, instructions about how best to orient the layers on your respective Botanical Bliss are available on the brand’s website.
Another important part of texture is pressure, or more especially where pressure points might form while lying on top of a new bed.
Instead of merely describing where these tension spots might crop up, I thought I’d provide you a visual representation rather. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach.
You can see the effects on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back: Lying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the soft layer of latex foam working to fill in the space at my lumbar region.
Even for all this sinkage, the responsiveness of the latex made it easy for me to roll around and change positions.
Edge Support: Scooting as close to the side as I could, I noticed some profound compression through the top layers.
While I didn’t feel as if I’d roll out of bed, I wouldn’t say this mattress had especially good edge support.
Side: Since side sleepers tend to like softer mattresses, I was not surprised to discover that I felt a lot of fantastic pressure relief in this position.
As you can see in the picture above, I did not notice any strain in my shoulders or hips, typical problem areas for people who doze mostly on their own sides.
Stomach: And lastly, once I rolled on my stomach, I started to feel a little discomfort as the soft nature of the bed caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders.
Stomach sleepers have a tendency to prefer firm beds as they help to keep the spine in a nice, even line, so those who sleep solely in their stomachs may want to decide on a firmer configuration of the Botanical Bliss. Plush Beds Organic Mattress
Plan on sharing your bed with a spouse ? Well then, you’ll want to keep a tight eye trained on its motion move, or the quantity of disturbance likely to be felt from one side of the bed to another.
Basically, this test will let you know just how bothered you’ll be by your bed partner’s moves in the night.
To illustrate this, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each fall is intended to symbolize a different movement you are likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
For those people who aren’t fans of latex, this interfering bounce is one of the most frequent complaints associated with the substance and can be seen in other all-latex beds, such as the Zenhaven.
When purchasing a new bed, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it.
To illustrate this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
6 lb medicine ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 pound medicine ball: 6.5 inches of sinkage.
These results are really interesting because while the rebound of the latex helps to combat any type of stuck-in-the-bed feeling, the mattress itself features an incredible amount of sinkage.
While not the same as contouring, which refers to this sort of cushiony pressure relief you might get in the shoulders and hips from a memory foam bed like the Tempurpedic, the sinkage nonetheless contributes to the Botanical Bliss’ overall soft texture.

IS THE PLUSH BEDS MATTRESS BEST FOR YOU?
Now that we have taken a closer look at the Botanical Bliss mattress, I want to highlight some of its greatest pros and cons:
One of my favourite things about this mattress is how bouncy it’s , which could be an attractive feature for those looking for buoyant support.
Another major pro is that the Botanical Bliss sleeps cool. The all-natural latex is excellent at temperature regulation, ensuring that you won’t overheat at night.
And lastly, a huge selling point is the organic construction. From the natural wool in the cover to the Dunlop Latex layers, this bad boy is wholly green.
As we mentioned above, this mattress did not have amazing motion transfer results, meaning you’re likely to be disturbed by movements in the night.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you are not going to encounter a lot of shape here, among the most common complaints about latex that might be a deal breaker for those of you needing deep pressure relief. Plush Beds Organic Mattress
The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress is a fantastic mattress overall. With very good comfort, support, bounce, and cooling, it’s tough to look beyond this 100% latex mattress. An organic cotton cover enhances airflow and rounds out a healthy outer covering. Additionally, there is a 1″ coating of 100 percent Joma wool underneath the cover which does a great job of enhancing breathablity of the mattress as well as absorbing moisture. This helps sleepers keep a cool body temperature during sleep. All in all, the PlushBeds mattress is a wonderful latex mattress that provides an quality level of support in all sleeping positions together with great cooling and a round hug / body contour.
