If you are looking to snag an eco-friendly mattress for your bedroom, you might want to consider the Botanical Bliss mattress from PlushBeds. Built with organic latex, this bed aims to be as great for your sleep hygiene as it is for the environment. Plush Beds Ocean Mist Reviews
But how well does it live up to this mission? That’s what I am here to learn, by putting it through a series of rigorous tests to figure out its feel, how it sleeps and whether or not it could be the mattress of your dreams.
Read on below for my full review of this PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress.
The Botanical Bliss is built with three 3″ layers of natural Dunlop Latex.
Unlike Talalay Latex, which often has a light and airy texture, Dunlop is dense and makes for a firmer structure.
Here, all the three Dunlop segments is categorized as either Soft, Medium or Firm, and can be arranged in whatever order best matches the sleeper.
According to PlushBeds, there are a total of six distinct firmnesses for every mattress, using a split firmness option available for King and Cal King sizes.
Worried you won’t be able to figure out how to configure the layers to your liking? No sweat! The brand offers a series of graphics on its site detailing all the various ways to orient the latex segments.
Plus, if you are still not happy with the feel, PlushBeds is pleased to throw in an extra Firm layer of latex for more support.
For the purpose of my review, I will be taking a look at the Botanical Bliss at the”Soft” orientation, which has the Soft layer on top, the Medium layer in the center and the Firm segment as the base.
But enough talk! Let’s dive into this plush latex mattress and see what’s going on inside.
Cover: Made with organic wool and cotton, the cover is soft and provides the sleeper with a few satisfying comfort.
Latex Layers: As I mentioned up top, the next few sections are comprised of 100% organic Dunlop Latex.
This material is dense and has a fast response to pressure, making a bed that is incredibly bouncy. In comparison to memory foam, latex doesn’t feature much if any contouring, so you are unlikely to feel stuck in the mattress.
Another thing you’re likely to notice with latex is that it sleeps cool, so could be an excellent option for those of you who tend to sleep hot during the night.
As far as the texture in this particular configuration is concerned, placing the Soft layer up top allows for some initial deep sinkage to the bed, which is buffered marginally by the Medium latex section as the sleeper transitions into the Firm base under.
The Botanical Bliss‘ construction is also noteworthy because it’s a 100% certified organic mattress, which means all its materials are licensed by the International Organic Latex Standard and the Global Organic Textile Standard.
Plus, the bed is also GREENGUARD Gold Certified, making sure that the mattress has fulfilled some of the world’s most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds into indoor air. Plush Beds Ocean Mist Reviews
After taking a look at the building of the Botanical Bliss, let’s chat about the firmness and feel.
I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and found that I was instantly interacting with the soft wool cover.
Pressing in farther, I struck the buoyant lift of the latex layers, which propelled me up and from the structure.
Since people of different sizes, shapes and weights are going to feel firmness differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to help me determine how firm the Botanical Bliss is.
We each took a turn lying about the plush organic mattress, gave it a private firmness score and then compiled them on the graph below.
While feel is always going to be an individual thing, this will hopefully give you a good sense of the firmness range you can expect from this bed.
Aside from one outlier, we were mostly in agreement about the firmness of the Botanical Bliss, landing an average rating of 5.4.
When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it appears like this bed is pretty soft.
I personally gave the mattress a 5. While the bounce of the latex is very likely to keep you positioned on top of the bed, the material is surprisingly gentle, allowing for a few pretty deep sinkage throughout the mattress.
Keep in mind that we are only looking at the bed in its”Moderate” orientation and that shifting around the layers could make it firmer or softer.
To get more specific, the Botanical Bliss Medium provides a firmness range from 5-7 using gentle, medium and firm layers of latex.
The Botanical Bliss Firm runs from 7-9 and just utilizes medium, firm and extra firm latex. These different sections can be moved around to make 6 unique configurations, representing a subtle gradient within the prescribed range.
If we swapped across the layers in our bed to have a firm layer up top, a moderate transition section and a soft foundation, we’d wind up with a bed which had a firmness of about 7.
As I mentioned up top, instructions on the best way to orient the layers in your respective Botanical Bliss are available on the brand’s website.
Another important part of feel is stress, or more especially where pressure points might form while lying on top of a brand new bed.
Rather than merely describing where these tension spots might crop up, I thought I’d provide you a visual representation instead. To do this, I placed a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach.
You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back: Lying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the soft layer of latex foam working to fill in the space in my thoracic region.
Even for this sinkage, the responsiveness of the latex made it easy for me to roll around and change positions.
Edge Support: Scooting as close to the side as I could, I noticed some profound compression through the top layers.
While I did not feel as if I’d roll out of bed, I would not say this mattress had particularly good edge support.
Side: Since side sleepers have a tendency to enjoy softer mattresses, I was not surprised to discover that I felt lots of fantastic pressure relief in this position.
As you can see in the graphic above, I did not notice any strain in my shoulders or hips, typical problem areas for people who doze mostly on their sides.
Stomach: And lastly, once I rolled onto my stomach, I began to feel a little distress as the soft nature of the bed caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders.
Stomach sleepers tend to prefer firm beds as they help to keep the spine in a nice, even line, so those who sleep solely in their stomachs may want to decide on a firmer configuration of the Botanical Bliss. Plush Beds Ocean Mist Reviews
Plan on sharing your bed with a spouse ? Well then, you will want to keep a tight eye trained on its motion transfer, or the quantity of disturbance likely to be felt from 1 side of the bed to another.
Essentially, this test will inform you just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s movements in the evening.
To illustrate this, I dropped a 10 pounds. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each fall is meant to symbolize another movement you are likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
For those who aren’t lovers of latex, this interfering bounce is one of the most frequent complaints related to the substance and can be seen in other all-latex beds, like the Zenhaven.
When buying a new bed, most people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it.
To exemplify this sinkage, I placed four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
6 lb medicine ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 6.5 inches of sinkage.
These results are really interesting because while the bounce of the latex certainly helps to combat any type of stuck-in-the-bed feeling, the mattress itself features an incredible amount of sinkage.
While not exactly the same as contouring, which refers to this sort of cushiony pressure relief you may get in the shoulders and hips from a memory foam mattress like the Tempurpedic, the sinkage nonetheless contributes to the Botanical Bliss’ overall soft texture.
Sleep Trial: 100 days.
Warranty: 25 years.

IS THE PLUSH BEDS MATTRESS RIGHT FOR YOU?
Now that we have taken a closer look at the Botanical Bliss mattress, I want to highlight some of its biggest pros and cons:
One of my favorite things about this mattress is how bouncy it’s , which might be an attractive feature for those looking for buoyant support.
Another major pro is that the Botanical Bliss sleeps cool. The all-natural latex is excellent at temperature regulation, ensuring that you won’t snore at night.
And lastly, a huge selling point is the organic building . From the organic wool in the cover into the Dunlop Latex layers, this bad boy is wholly green.
As we discussed above, this mattress did not have amazing motion transfer results, meaning you’re likely to be disturbed by movements in the night.
Another thing to bear in mind is that you are not going to experience a good deal of contour here, among the most frequent complaints about latex that could be a deal breaker for those of you needing deep pressure relief. Plush Beds Ocean Mist Reviews
The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress is a fantastic mattress overall. With very good comfort, support, bounce, and cooling, it is hard to look past this 100% latex mattress. An organic cotton cover improves airflow and rounds out a healthy outer covering. Additionally, there’s a 1″ coating of 100 percent Joma wool beneath the cover which does an excellent job of enhancing breathablity of the mattress as well as absorbing moisture. This helps sleepers maintain a cool body temperature during sleep. All in all, the PlushBeds mattress is a nice latex mattress that gives an quality level of support in all sleeping positions along with terrific cooling and a rounded hug / body shape.
